2008 District 6840 Conference Meeting
Loew's Hotel, 300 Poydras Street, New Orleans, LA

A Message from Dick McCarthy:

We should all be so proud to receive this special award given to our Club for our never before seen maximum participation in our District Conference. What is particularly noticeable was not only our heavy attendance, but our participation by Sherry Snyder's singing group which kicked off the Talent Show at the best ever Foodfest, the participation of Judy Demarest's incredible Interactors who so willingly assisted Tim Slater in the policing of the trash boxes, to the unbelievable music and marching performed by the Warren Easton High School Band, the hosting of plenary sessions to the talented "Hi Herb" Randy Feldman as our Master of Ceremonies at the Governor's Banquet, which in Randy's own words as MC, at the end we were not there for hours, but weeks before it ended. And we cannot fail to mention the wonderful food prepared at the fest by David and Bitsy Duggins, Bobbie Collins, and the description of the "Table Scapes" created by Bitsy Duggins, to the judging of these table Scopes by Jane Lowentritt and Barbara Maslansky. What a team of which I could not be more proud! The day following the successful Foodfest I kept hearing such favorable remarks from Rotarians how wonderful it was to have the Warren Easton students participate in the festivities, how nice they were, and without exception all behaved in an exemplary manner. We couldn't have done this without everyone of you.

I will be out of town for the next two Rotary Meetings, but when I am next there I would like to present this trophy to our Club in Person.

Thanks for all your enthusiastic support!

Note: Rabbi Andy Busch of Touro Synagogue will share the invocation at the opening session of the District Conference. Since it is leading up to and over Passover, we have made it difficult for Rotarians of the Jewish faith to attend all segments of the District Conference. District Governor Milton Wheeler suggested that we invite a Rabbi to the opening ceremony to share the invocation. Our Club's very own Roz Koretzky has invited Rabbi Andy Busch of Touro Synagogue, and he has agreed to do us the great honor of participating in this most significant part in the opening ceremonies. It is not widely known, but when planning this district conference in New Orleans we had to find a weekend where the hotels were affordable, and with the task of squeezing us in between the French Quarter Festival and the two weekends of Jazzfest, and before the RI Convention in June, there were just no good weekends for the Conference. Please thank Roz Koretzky for taking this initiative to invite Rabbi Andy Busch to open our conference.
